Keith Pullan Garden Design offers a professional yet personalized garden design service carefully tailored to the individual requirements of each client. With the experience of an extensive Fine Art background combined with a passion for plants and landscape, I work with flair and originality to produce dynamic yet elegant, timeless designs in harmony with the home and surroundings.
Being sensitive to the interplay between art, the natural world and the essential character of a sense of place, my designs have a strong, positive framework enhanced by naturalistic, harmonious planting. In all my work, plants and materials are carefully selected to have affinity with the site and it´s setting.

About the practice . . . .
I was already an established artist, teacher and designer when Keith Pullan Garden Design was founded over twelve years ago. I have been a registered member of the Society of Garden Designers for nine years, being one of only a select few members in the North of England.
The range of my work is extensive both in size and character. Projects include designs for city courtyards, suburban gardens, large country estates, newly-built properties, period gardens for listed buildings, and for property of distinct styles: contemporary, Arts and Crafts, Art Deco, and more. Details within such schemes include water features large and small, garden buildings and other structures, drainage and irrigation, lighting, sculpture, landscaping around swimming pools and tennis courts, and planting schemes designed for historical accuracy, colour, scent and contemporary styles. Many of my schemes embrace today´s demand for low maintenance, yet are full of all year interest. They are functional yet relaxing environments giving pleasure and enjoyment, a place to escape from the stresses of everyday life, and providing entertainment and play for friends and family.
Keith Pullan Garden Design is based in Malton near York, but has an extensive client base across the North of England, including North, West, South and East Yorkshire as well as Lancashire, Cumbria and Durham. In particular, I work in and around the areas of York, Harrogate, Leeds and Scarborough; projects may also be considered nationally throughout the UK.
The design process....
I take great pride in my attention to detail. This includes the formulation of a very thorough brief from the client, particularly accurate and carefully drawn plans, and rigorous monitoring of the construction work. The process of Garden Design can seem very daunting, but I guide my clients through this exciting activity with stimulating visualizations and reassuring efficiency.
The design process can include the following elements:
- Initial consultation; compiling a full client brief;
- Site survey and analysis;
- Preparation of a design proposal;
- Preparation of working plans and drawings, including construction details and planting plans;
- Specifications and tender documentation; appointing a contractor;
- Project monitoring;
- Aftercare and maintenance advice.
Planting Service
In addition to, or as part of the above Design work, I also offer an independent planting service. This includes sourcing, procurement and planting of carefully selected and sympathetically arranged schemes, from individual borders to complete gardens.
